Manhattan Plaza HD-S Freesat HD Digital Box

Brand new complete with 12 months manufacturers warranty

Manhattan Plaza HDS Freesat HD Digital Box The Manhattan Plaza HDS is the very latest Freesat HD Digital Box bringing you low-cost standard and high-definition television for the Freesat platform; offering good quality SD and HD picture and sound, with a straight forward epg and menu service, allowing you to find the channels you want with minimal fuss. Great price, easy to use, incredibly reliable from a reputable manufacturer.

What Satellite & Digital TV (issue #305) awarded the Plaza HD-S 10/10 for Value and 9/10 for Performance, Navigation and Setup, stating in its verdict, "The Plaza HD-S is an extremely capable Freesat HD receiver. The simple switching between Freesat and non-Freesat channel lists and the inclusion of both types of channel in the favourites makes this receiver a good choice for anyone wanting everything that 28E has to offer. Its reception performance is excellent and it will even find enthusiast friends. That it's probably the cheapest Freesat HD receiver around as well makes choosing the HD-S a no-brainer."

Manhattan Plaza HDS Freesat HD Digital Box Joinfreesat awarded the HD-S an overall score of 4.5/5, stating "The receiver serves its purpose for those that just want a basic Freesat receiver capable of accessing both SD and HD channels in good quality with simplistic functionality. The HD-S is priced to take a large share of the Freesat HD market and we firmly believe at around £85 (rrp) it will be successful; if it can also retain the reliability of the existing DS-100 we think this little box will be a winner.

The Freesat platform uses the same satellite setup as BSkyB, so if you already have this in place and working, you'll just need to purchase the Freesat Digital Box of choice, plug in and enjoy!

A list of available channels can be found at http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/index.php/freesat-channels

Please note that this is not a Freesat+ PVR unit. This is the single tuner Freesat HD receiver.

I cancelled my Sky subs last January, was paying a whopping £60 a month for TV, Phone and Broadband. I went back to virginmedia on offer and am now paying £30 a month for limited TV Package, Phone and Broadband. Wanting more channels though without paying extra it made great sense to purchase this manhatten plaza Freesat box. It was odered one day, and delivered 24 hours later. How's that for a first class service! Anyway, it took me a few minutes to set it up, install all the Freesat and Non-Freesat channels, and I was staggered to see more than 300 TV and Radio channels being available. Sound via an optical lead attached to my Yamaha Home Cinema Amplifier is very good indeed. Good quality pictures on most of the Freesat channels especially HD, although some of the lesser channels, picture did pixilate occasionaly, but I wasn't too bothered about that since those particular channels I do not watch anyway. Also, tried to attach via ethernet attached to my Home Network system for TV On Demand, and that works very well indeed! All in all, a great little box, works very well, and any of you thinking of ditching Sky subs, you won't go far wrong with this. Full marks by the way to Satbuyer for a first class service, a great product at a fantastic price, it won't break anyone's bank at an overall price of £70. Highly recommended.

After 7 years I cancelled my Sky Subscription due to cost and after seeing a Freesat "Pop-Up". Use your Sky Dish for Freesat. I was going to buy a Foxsat Box, but having seen an advert from " Satbyer" extolling the views of "The Manhattan Plaza Freesat box I quickly changed my chioce.I amglad I did, for I have had it working for 3 days and I am delighted with its performance. The picture through the HDMI lead to my Sony TV is "WHOW". Excellent!. Connecting all the leads took a bit of time but was due to my tangle of leads behind my TV, not the Manhattan Plaza Box. I also have a Sony HXD HD 790 Recorder/Player which is connected to it & it will record Freesat Programmes . It did freeze once when I got my leads mixed up. My fault, a 3 second reboot and it was away working again. My Sky box did that occasionaly. I believe it is worth every penny of its £69. The Hand Set is small but easy to use. It was delivered the next day after ordering, and I love it.

Really good value for money. The set up is the easiest and quickest I have ever experienced. The picture quality and the EPG are first class. I can’t check out I player and ITV player as I live in France (anyone know a way around this I use Expat shield and use I player successfully on the PC). The service from Satbuyer was superb. I ordered this last Friday pm and it arrived lunchtime today (Tuesday) in rural France. All at a very reasonable delivery charge (£20). If only all cross border transactions were so smooth.

I hummed and hawed over what to buy for my study. I have changed my LNB from quad to octo (8 connections). I have had Freesat since the very early days. Humax PVR Freesat in the lounge and an adequate (but slow) Goodmans HD box in our bedroom. I recently bought a Bush SD box for a bedroom – what a load of rubbish – it was DOA (dead on arrival). Bought ‘new’ via ebay. The seller refunded me in full without question and told me to deposit the box in my rubbish bin. I hooked up an old sky box as an interim measure. What leads me on to why I bought the Manhattan Plaza HD-S box. Of course you can while away a few hours by going online for a Freesat HD box - or go to Argos for the cheapest HD box - Bush at £70. Bush/Goodmans/Grundig are all one of the same – made for a price. On ebay you can pick them up ‘refurbished’ or as boxed 'graded' returns (mainly ex Argos I would guess). You can get these for £50 – £60 plus delivery on ebay, but you should ponder the question – just why are so many sellers selling ‘returned’ by customers 'graded' boxes? I bought the Manhattan Plaza HD-S box from Satbuyer on Friday for £79 plus £5 for delivery. It came today Monday at 09.00 am and I plugged it it. What I noticed right away is that it is very fast between channels and the picture quality is excellent. Your cheaper boxes like BUSH/GOODMANS/GRUNDIG tend to lag sometimes between channel switches – and if you are aggressive with the channel change their little brain gets scrambled leading to lock-out/freezes – a quick re-boot and it all works fine again; but this can be a tad annoying especially if you were just changing to skip some adverts. Point I am trying to make is that I got caught up in doing all the research and wasting oh so much time – the end result of the Manhattan Plaza HD-S was maybe only £15-£20 dearer than all the BUSH clones, but in my opinion well worth it. Life really is too short! I also had a pain free experience of ordering online via Satbuyer who I had never used before. I had an order confirmation as soon as I placed my order and a despatch advice email within the hour. The courier they use also gives a one hour slot in their tracking info so you don't get messed about wondering when the guy will come (as I have been in the past).

The Manhattan Plaza decoder is so easy to use and a very competant piece of equipment even for people who don't have much idea about electronics.

Got my box on Monday afternoon as promised from Satbuyer. They e mailed me on Monday morning and told me the item would be delivered between 3pm and 4pm. It arrived at 4.15pm so that was pretty good. The Manhattan HD-S is a super little Freesat/non Freesat single tuner receiver that does what it claims to do and it does it very well. I really like the easy switching bewteen modes. Just press the ok button then the left or right direction buttons which gives you a choice of Freesat TV, Freesat Radio, Non Freesat TV, non Freesat Radio. The eight day EPG loads virtually instantly and channels switching is very fast. Picture and sound quality are very good and easily comparable to more expensive boxes like the Technisat. The other outstanding feature for me is the ability to create up to six favorite lists which can contain a mixture of Freesat/Non Freesat TV and Radio in the same list. Auto Scan in non Freesat mode found 204 channels and no encrypted channels were listed which makes for a pleasant change from my other box. The only thing that makes the HD-S seem a budget product is the very small and light remote control which is the same design as my Bush Freeview remote just with four extra buttons. Having said that it does work well . This box is a good buy at £85 delivered for anyone who wants more than just Freesat and is not bothered about recording programs. No need to pay more.
